Why the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy isn't as bad...

Updated: May 3, 2021

"I find your lack of faith disturbing."

- Darth Vader

The Sequels

The science-fiction multi-film Star wars Saga has (no doubt) made a significant impact on the pop-culture during the late 70s and early 80s. And it still does with its later productions. Star Wars is arguably one of the most loved film franchises of all time (in my opinion, it should be the best) and there are a ton of reasons to support the statement:

  1. Episode IV: A New Hope is the fourth watched movie of all time.

  2. Darth Vader is an iconic villain (no explanation needed).

  3. Before Star Wars, special effects in films had not appreciably advanced since the 1950s.

  4. Characters like R2D2, C-3PO, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca have huge fan-bases.

  5. Memes and Merchandise.

Baby Yoda...... or Grogu, especially.

Probably.

Darth Grogu

No wait even girls love Baby Yoda.

Grogu.

So yeah, Grogu has taken over the internet and all kinds of merchandise.

Well played, Filoni...

In all of this, I have seen that there is, or masses of Star Wars fans have made, a flaw in the appreciation of the Saga. It is the opinions of critics, so-called fans, and people on the Sequel trilogy. The topic is quite inexplicable(for some people) and obnoxiously stupid, but I wish to present my take on the topic. And if you'll give it a good read, then you'll surely understand.

The Hate; especially for The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker, Solo: A Star Wars Story

Let me get to the facts straight without presenting unnecessary information; a lot of people show their hate for these three SW films someway or the other on the internet. And the Hate for the Sequels are somehow connected to George Lucas's disapproval of Disney's decision on the former.

The Last Jedi (same for the sequels) is mostly hated for its progressivism (will elucidate on it later).

The Last Jedi

The Rise of Skywalker is mostly hated for the way the story was rushed (I kind of agree with it, but again, particular things in the movie made up for the same).

The Rise of Skywalker

Solo: A Star Wars story is mostly hated for.......... Donald Glover's role as Lando, maybe?

"Mr. This is America" as Lando

Well, I don't really understand why fans hate this one film, I guess I'll just say these so-called fans just wanted the origin story to go in the way they wanted it to.....

Each of these Blockbusters isn't as bad as people say they are. Seriously.

The Last Jedi

IMDb: 7/10

Rotten Tomatoes: 90%

Metacritic: 84%

These figures are of course not bad at all for a film. But for a normal person, the contrasting memes and comments and replies from random people on the internet speak otherwise.

As I said earlier, Boomers, or "Baby Boomers" find the lead roles of the franchises way too progressive. Progressive in the sense that the newly introduced generation of lead characters are more racially diverse and advocate having more women in positions of power.

There are also lots and lots of tweets and user reviews and responses that focus on the idea that the film’s strongest characters are almost all women, who usually know the right thing to do, while its most evil characters are white men with complexes about being given what they think they deserve. Don't believe me? I've provided links for the same at the bottom of the page.

I don't see why the characters should be hated. I like Rey's curious nature, her outfit with her signature staff, her loyalty to the light side of the force, and her relationship with Luke Skywalker as master as the story goes. And just like Rey, every character has a certain virtual aura around him.

Rey with her staff

Some scenes, including the one where Vice Admiral Holdo directs her ship (or whatever it was called) towards Snoke's Star Destroyer and its fleet and performs the heroic Holdo maneuver along with the silent scene that follows, Luke and Yoda's conversation, Luke and Kylo Ren's final battle, and the best of all;

EVERY SCENE WITH THE PORGS!

Porg with Chewie in the background

Damn those things certainly made up for anything the film was missing(I don't think it did).

The Rise of Skywalker

IMDb: 6.6/10

Rotten Tomatoes: 51%

Metacritic: 53%

Now those ratings do say somethings up.

But sometimes, you don't need ratings to judge how good a movie is.

I got to say The Rise of Skywalker was a film where everything was extremely rushed up.

The resurrected emperor had no appearances in the past films, and the Final Order's fleet of Imperial ships was introduced and destroyed in the same film. I mean, come on! Those things had planet-destroying weapons on them! The Final order was shown waaaayyy more powerful than the empire was... it should have lasted for at least 2 more films!

I found it hard to even digest the fact that Chewbacca had died before even realizing that he is not really dead yet, considering his place in the Galaxy of Adventures.

But the movie had the best Star Wars opening scene ever. For me at least.

The way Ren advances to find and kill Palpatine to erase anything that tries to threaten his authority was so damn awesome... I mean the way he turns on his lightsaber under his coat was something I actually watched in a loop for 15 minutes. The way Kylo Ren's mask is reconstructed is also badass.

Behold.... the mighty Ren has arrived

The best part for me? I loved the way Poe Dameron, Rey, Finn, Chewie, and BB-8 team up as a real friends gang and take a stand against the final order. I loved their team!

And the scene when the Emporer attains his full, "Unlimited Power", directs force lightning on the enormous fleet of the citizenships allied with the resistance ones. Truly, the dialogue Palpatine said in Episode III when he killed Windu; he should have rather said it when he made that badass use of the Force.

Palpatine's ultimate Force Lightning

I must also mention the two Glorious moments Lando made: one when he does a comeback after so many years, and the other when he arrives with his fleet alliance consisting of all types of people from across the galaxy and says "But there's more of us Poe, there's more of us." when Poe actually gives up.

Lando in The Rise of Skywalker

Speaking of this, I wish to present my personal opinion on a new character introduced on Kijimi: Zorii Bliss. I don't know why, shifting from a logical mindset, I felt more romance in the conversation between Poe and Zorii than any other scene in all of the Star Wars saga--*-. The moment Zorii takes off her mask and Poe sets his eyes on hers.....

Zorii Bliss

I really want Disney to make an origin story on Poe Dameron just like Han Solo. Solo has no doubt been an iconic character, but Dameron is no less, he's a really cool and fearless character dammit!

Which trilogy is the best: The Prequels, the Sequels, or The Originals?

People also tend to say that the Prequels were way better than the sequels, the original trilogy can never be replaced, and so on. I believe this comparison should not take place; just because characters like Luke, Leia, and Solo were in the originals doesn't mean that ONLY they should be the face of the Saga... They're the faces of the Original Star Wars trilogy. And there is a reason why Star Wars films are categorized into Prequels, Sequels, and Originals; they have their own worlds and heroes but are connected to the same story. Enjoy the series, man, how much more will you compare and hate¯\_(ツ)_/¯?

Conclusion

I hope this post was, in some way or the other, a good one that made you smile and you got to know a lot of things from it. I would like to state this to my readers that your feedback, either positive or negative will always put a smile on our face because it signifies the fact that someone reads our posts. Do consider giving feedback on this post and state what you think about it.

But in case you're one of those so-called Star Wars fans and still want to fight back with a backlash of stupid reasons why the Sequels suck, well, my friend,

This is for you

Now you take that as a thumbs up or a middle..... whatever, I leave it to you. So long, sky trash.
